SWEDISH MASSAGE

Swedish massage is the most familiar and best-known type of massage. It's the foundation for other types of Western massage, including sports massage, deep tissue massage, and aromatherapy massage, and is based on the Western thoughts of anatomy and physiology.

If it's your first time at the spa or you don't get a massage often, Swedish massage is the best place to start.  Most people start with a 60-minute Swedish or deep tissue massage, but 90-minutes gives the therapist more time to work the muscle tissue and achieve results.

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE

Deep tissue massage is a type of massage intended at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia, also called connective tissue. Deep tissue massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as a Swedish massage, but the pressure will be more intense.

It is also a more focused type of massage, as the therapist works to release chronic muscle tension or "knots."   It's important to drink a lot of water after a deep tissue massage to help flush lactic acid out of the tissues.

PRENATAL MASSAGE

Massage therapy during pregnancy is a wonderful complementary choice for prenatal care.  Prenatal massage is a healthy way to reduce stress and promote overall wellness for mom and baby. Massage relieves many of the normal discomforts experienced during pregnancy, such as backaches, stiff neck, leg cramps, headaches and or swelling.

In addition, massage for pregnant women reduces stress on weight-bearing joints, encourages blood and lymph circulation. Prenatal massage also helps to relax nervous tension, which allows for better sleep.  A prenatal massage can help relieve depression or anxiety brought on by hormonal changes.
